Kyker Funeral Homes in Sweetwater, Tennessee, is the oldest funeral home operating in Monroe County, and was established by the late J. S. Kyker in August of 1905. The funeral home has been in continuous operation at the same location since that date.
Mr. J. S. Kyker believed in providing conscientious, sympathetic, and professional funeral services that honor the life of your loved one, and assist family and friends during this difficult time.
In 1931, Mr. J. S. Kyker was joined by his three sons. Aubrey S. Kyker assisted him to run the Sweetwater facility. Mr. J. Earl Kyker opened a funeral home in Harriman in 1938, with a branch office in Kingston. Mr. Paul G. Kyker was placed in charge of the Madisonville funeral home and later operated and retired from the Sweetwater office.
Robert N. Kyker, the third generation of the Kyker family in funeral service, was manager in Madisonville until 1964 when he then moved to Harriman and served as President for many years.
The fourth generation of the Kyker Family to become active in the funeral home operations, R. Neil Kyker (Jr.), joined the firm in September 1980 and is now the President operating from the Sweetwater location. His brother Michael Dean (Mike) Kyker, a graduate in accounting from Middle Tennessee State University, joined the firm in April 1989 and served as Secretary of the corporation until his death in January 2001. Their brother Christopher Allen Kyker also joined the firm in August 1987 and served as Treasurer until his death in April 2001, and his wife Julia Kyker Bartlett, is presently the firm's Corporate Secretary.
Their son, Mitchell Kyker is now the fifth generation Kyker in funeral service. Mitchell began working full time after graduating from Harriman High School 2009. He then attended Roane State Community College and graduated from John A. Gupton College in Nashville in December of 2011. Mitchell is now a licensed funeral director at our Harriman location.
