David R. Reed

David R. Reed, age 61, went to be with his heavenly Father on May 4, 2020. He was born July 9, 1958, son of the late John and Minnie Ruth Reed, and was preceded in death by his father-in-law Harry Byrd, brothers Joe Allen, James, and Johnny and sister Deborah. David was a graduate of McMinn County High School and a proud member of Union McMinn Baptist Church. David loved the Lord, his family, tending to his livestock, making people laugh and finding a bargain to trade on. David believed in treating people the right way and got joy out of connecting with people. Over the last thirty years, he has brightened the lives of thousands of people, either by passing out candy and dollar bills to local kids at the “stock barn” or church, or by just making sure he always went out of his way to speak to people and always try to make them feel welcomed. He is survived by his soulmate and loving wife of 19 wonderful years, Rebecca, his sons: Dustin Reed, Jonathan Reed, and Chris Gibson, his daughters: Heather Gibson Jaramillo and Katie Reed Sampson, two sons-in-law: Hector Jaramillo and Alex Sampson, one daughter-in-law: Serena Smith Gibson, and the light of his life, his grandchildren: Owen Reed, Dillon Reed and Harrison Jaramillo. His brothers and sisters, Dorotha, Charlie, Don, Ralph and Jackie, as well as many nephews and nieces all mourn his loss. Growing up as one of ten children, family has always been the most important thing to David. His bond with his brothers and sisters is well-known in the community. He was a loving husband, a father who wanted to always protect his children, and a grandfather who wanted nothing more than to spoil his grandchildren. He was a prideful brother. And he was a faithful friend to all of those who needed one. The world was better with David Reed in it, and he will be incredibly missed by many. A celebration of David’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. at Union McMinn Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00P.M. until 7:00 P.M. before the service. Interment 10:00 A.M. on Thursday in the Sweetwater Memorial Park.
