Charles William (Cotton) Dawson Sr.

Charles William (Cotton) Dawson, Sr., born 3/21/1930 passed away on August 2, 2018 at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. He was the second son of Claude William Dawson Sr. and Gladys Irene Ridge Dawson who preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by his oldest brother Claude William Dawson Jr. He came to Christ at an early age and served faithfully at Beulah Chapel Church of the Nazarene as Sunday School Superintendent and a Church Board Trustee for many years. As a board member he was a man of few words but had a knack for asking the hard questions. He worked at McMinn County Highway Department for 33 years. A portion of his working years he was the bridge foreman for the county and supervised the construction of many of the concrete bridges in McMinn County. He also did electrical and plumbing work, was an excellent carpenter and could fix nearly anything often providing such work for free to help others. He was a hard working dedicated family man who taught his sons an excellent work ethic and instilled into them the idea that they could accomplish anything they were willing to work for in life. Both his sons are proud to call him Dad. He was a loving and dedicated husband who cherished his wife of 68 years and 10 months. He and Mary Evelyn Redmond Dawson were married October 3, 1949. Until his illness he and his wife were inseparable and set an excellent example for their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by two sons, Rev. Charles W. (Bill) Dawson, Jr, (Martha) and Ronnie Dean Dawson (Marianne) both of Niota, a sister Marian Dawson Jaynes and brother, Ray Chastain Dawson both of Sweetwater. There are six Grandchildren, Ellen Dawson Small (Dewayne) Niota; Rebecca Dawson Brown (Robert) Graysville; David Matthew Dawson (Jessica) Lyles; Brina Dawson, Niota; Ken Lowry (Tammy), Rebecca Freeman (Dillis) Knoxville. There are nine great grand children Brooke Wilder, Brittany Daniels; Joe William, John Robert and Bridget Brown: Trent, Benjamin and Nathaniel Lowry, Julie Quinn Vinson. There are two great great great grand children Chloe Wilder and Aubree Daniels and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends and neighbors. The Family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Ben Coffey, Dr. Christopher Shamblin, Dr. Christopher Bowman and the excellent staff at Sweetwater Hospital and Wood Presbyterian Nursing Home. Visitation will be at Kyker Funeral Homes on Sunday from 5P.M. until 8P.M. with Funeral Services at Beulah Chapel Church of the Nazarene on Monday at 11A.M. with internment to follow in the Church cemetery. Rev. John Porter will conduct the services. In lieu of flowers the family requests a memorial contribution to Beulah Chapel Building Fund, 270 CO. RD 231, Niota, TN 37826
