Dorothy Belle Moore

Dorothy Belle Goins Moore (Ms. Dottie B.), age 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on June 12, 2025. She was born on December 13, 1940, in Harriman, Tennessee to the late John and Dorothy Goins. She was a member of the Bazeltown Baptist Church. She worked in the church as an usher, served on the kitchen committee and sat on the Mother’s Board. Dorothy was married to the late Richard Moore, Sr. Born to their union: Terry Ann Harris, Richard Moore, Jr., the late Janet Kilgo, Kenneth Moore and Patricia Ann Caldwell. As a mother, she was very stern; however, you didn’t have to be her child to be punished. Her famous saying was “I will whoop your ass!” IF you heard that, you were definitely considered family to her. She loved her family and her bonus families (which are the children who would come over to play). She loved to prepare and cook many meals until her health failed. She was an entrepreneur who cared for people and took care of their homes. Many people felt the love and nurture she provided in their homes. She worked at the Harriman United Methodist Church for 15 years. She also worked at the Hosiery Mill in Harriman, Tennessee. She worked for many years but after the first three children, Richard said it was time for her to stay home and raise the children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Moore, Sr., her daughter, Janet Kilgo, her parents John and Dorothy Goins, her sons in law, J.B. Harris and Nathan Kilgo, Sr. She leaves memories to be cherished to her children Terry Ann Harris of Harriman, Tennessee, Richard Moore, Jr. (Lametria) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Kenneth Moore, Sr. (Barbara) of Harriman, Tennessee and Patricia Ann Caldwell of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Grandchildren, Nathan Kilgo, Jr. (Tosha) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Nikki Reno, Tishana Moore, Whitney Moore of Harriman, Tennessee, Kenneth Moore, Jr. of Kingston, Tennessee, Alexus Walker (Louis) and Madison Caldwell of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Bonus grandson, Shannon Jones of Cookeville, Tennessee. 20 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Special Cousin Arlene Goins of Harriman, Tennessee and Sister-in-Law, Marilyn Johnson of Harriman, Tennessee. A Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other extended family members to include self-adopted children. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. with funeral service to follow on Saturday, June 21,2025 at the Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman. Following the funeral burial will be held in Bazeltown Baptist Church Cemetery. Kyker Funeral Home of Harriman is serving the Moore Family.
