Dorothy Allen Schariter

Dorothy Allen Schariter Loving Wife and Mother, age 90, passed peacefully to heaven on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at her home of 64 years. Dorothy was born in Nashville, TN on November 7, 1926 to Cecil and Jesse Mae Allen. Dorothy graduated from Isaac Litton High in Nashville, and attended Middle Tennessee State for one year before joining the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge TN as a Lab Tech where she met and married her late Husband John Schariter in 1947. They were married 62 years. After living in Oak Ridge John and "Dotty" moved to Kingston, TN in 1953 where they raised their 3 children and were active in community life. Dotty was active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and was involved in donating her time to all of the activities in which her children participated. She also worked for many years at Kinser Drug in Kingston. In addition to her devotion to her husband and children, "Dotty" had the gift of hospitality welcoming her children's friends and acquaintances into her home. There were frequent guests for dinner, at holidays, and she invested many hours offering affection and advice to young people besides the wonderful food she served. Dotty enjoyed her home and community, but she also enjoyed to travel. She had wonderful trips and adventures with her husband, children, grand children, and her in laws. It did not take much to convince her to take a road trip. Dotty leaves behind her three children, son Joseph and his wife Mary Schariter of Walland, TN, daughter Christy and her husband Eddie Bivens of Niota TN, and daughter Heidi and her husband David Miller of Oak Ridge, TN. She also leaves behind 4 grand children Joseph Caldwell of Kingston, TN, JJ Schariter and wife Liz of Waltham, MA, Jennifer Schariter and husband Michael Carter of Knoxville, and Kellye Mckheean and husband Daniel. She was also blessed to have 7 great grandchildren Kayleigh, Alexus, Michael, Zara, Daphne, Remi, and Ryder. Dorothy loved God, family, country, and a good adventure. She is at peace, reunited with her husband, and is now having an eternal adventure with her Maker. The Schariter Family thanks Dr. Rodney McMillan for the special care he showed for Dotty over the years. A private family memorial was held Saturday, June 24 at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston followed by a graveside service at Kingston Memorial Gardens.
