Edna Marsh Carrington

Edna Marsh Carrington, 89 of Kingston, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, September 5, 2011. Edna was a native of Elizabethton, TN and a daughter of the late Matson H. and Zeuleaka Bradley Marsh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Sam V. Carrington, Sr., 10/20/96, her sister, Blanche Marsh Sandstrom, 03/18/99, and a grandson, Jason Coleman Carrington, 03/22/08. Edna had made Kingston her home for over 60 years. After raising her children, Edna completed nurse aide training and worked at the Roane Medical Center in Harriman for 18 years. She enjoyed her work at the hospital and made many lasting friendships. Edna was a Christian and a devout member of the Kingston Church of Christ. She dearly loved her family, her church, and her many friends. She enjoyed reading and needlework, especially quilting, and had made many quilts for members of her family. For the past several years Edna was able to escape the cold East TN winters for the sunshine and warmth of Florida with her son David and his wife. Survivors include two sons and two daughters in law Sam V. Jr., and Noreda Carrington, Marietta, GA David and Billye Carrington, Oak Ridge, TN Daughter and son in law Marsha and Emory McDaniel, Birmingham, AL. Four grandchildren and their spouses; Craig and Sara Carrington, Portland, OR Stephen and Kris Carrington, Marietta, GA Bethany and Brad Staats, Hermitage, TN and Nathan Smith, Birmingham, AL Four great grandchildren; Bryant, Brantley, and Rylan Staats of Hermitage , TN and Madeleine Carrington of Ireland. One niece, Gaye Sandstrom McCullough, Elizabethton, TN. Many cousins, including Mandy Marsh Franklin, Greenville, TN and Cathy Clear Ross, Elizabethton, TN. Her extended family also include step grandchildren Debby Lovelace, Jacksonville, FL, Lydia and Holly Thugut, Durham, NC Neighbors an dear friends, Jim and Kitty Fergerson and Cliff and Mary Chandler. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Dr William Bennett and his staff for the devoted care of our precious Mother for the past 20+ years. A celebration of the life of Edna Carrington will be held at the Kingston Church of Christ, 303 N. Kentucky St. Kingston, TN on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM with services to follow with Ministers Danny Nunn and Jeff Brown officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at the Roane Memorial Gardens at 11 AM on Thursday September 8, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.
