Gene Burney

Gene Burney, age 68 of Kingston, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007, at the Methodist Medical Center after a ten year battle with cancer. He is a member of Morrison Hill Christian Church, Past President of the Roane County Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Roane Industrial Development Board, Past President of the Roane County Fair. He enjoyed his family, friends and traveling. Despite his health challenges, especially in recent months, he maintained his unique sense of humor and positive outlook continuously, living life to the fullest. He touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. Preceded in death by his first wife, Watha Jane Burney, granddaughter, Jane Ellen Sims, father and mother Joe Glendon and Sallie Belle Bishop Burney, sister, Loretta Burney Davis. Survied by wife, Mary H. Burney of Kingston; Daughters, Bonnye Burney; Karen Burney Prichard and husband Michael; Janet Burney Sims and husband Dan all of Birmingham, AL; Lisa Burney Tedder and husband Wayne of Bentonville, AR; Stepdaughters, Cynthia Woolum Ariks and husband Billy; Tina Woolum Clark and husband Eric all of Kingston; Grandchildren, Austin, Stephen, Leah Dennis; Haley, Anna, David, Daniel Sims; Melanie Brown all of Birmingham, AL; Matthew, Bradley, Scott Bedwell; Landon Tedder all of Bentonville, AR; Amanda Brown of Harriman; Michael Greenwell and wife Tami of Athens, TN; Casey, Logan, Kinzee, Linzee Clark all of Kingston; Alex Clark of Knoxville; Great grandchildren, Travis, Trenton Wright both of Harriman; Jason, Jada Brown both of Birmingham, AL; Devin Greenwell, Hannah Cox both of Athens, TN; Sister, JoAnn Minton and husband Lucian of Greenbriar, TN; Brother, Wayne Burney and wife Jeaniene of Clarksville, TN; Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral 1pm Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the Morrison Hill Christian Church where the body will lie-in-state for two hours before the services with Jess Rittenhouse and Dennis Mullen officiating. Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Michael Greenwell, Matthew, Bradley, Scott Bedwell; Austin, Stephen Dennis and Alex Clark. Burial in Kingston Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Janie Sims Children’s Foundation, P.O. Box 660752, Birmingham, AL 35266 or the Morrison Hill Christian Church, P.O. Box 59, Kingston, TN 37763. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9pm Wednesday at the Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston.
