Houston Doc Moore

Houston “Doc” Moore, age 94, of Kingston, passed away October 24, 2016 with family members by his side. He was born in Roane County in the Stamp Creek Valley area on September 11, 1922. Doc worked hard all of his life and was a Jack-of-all-trades. His work ethic was arduous but always proved to be the best way to get things done. He worked for the Roane County Government and Tennessee Forging Steel for many years, but his real passion was the work he did on his farm. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. He attended Chamberlain and Paint Rock elementary schools and graduated from Roane County High School. He played basketball at Paint Rock and RCHS. He was very active in his local community and proudly supported Midway athletics in various ways including officiating “B” team basketball games and running the clock for those games. Doc also helped develop the football field and stadium stands at Midway High School. He was a member Kingston Church of Christ for more than 60 years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, of nearly 70 years. Both parents, Ida and Arthur Moore; his sisters, Duley Moore, Lillie Davis, Lucy Russell, Rose Moore; his brothers, Arch, Walter, Crosse, Rufe and Starl Moore; and great-grandson, Alex Dodson. He is survived by his children, Brenda Kay Holt (Ron), Gerald H. Moore (Kathy), Barbara D. Fleenor (Richard); grandchildren, Michele Dodson, Chris Holt (Lisa), Donna Ward (Rex), Jason O’Shell (Mary Ann), Joy O’Shell (Scott Filar), Andy (Brandi) Humphreys, and special caregiver for many years—Brett Humphreys; great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Orion, Mallory Ward, Malachi and MaKinnon Holt, Olivia and Ethan O’Shell, and Silas, Solveig and Signe Filar; Wyatt and Shelby Humphreys; siblings Carrye Patton, Beulah Clower and Arnold Moore; and many nieces and nephews. Doc was a great friend to many people and will be sorely missed by all that knew him. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 2:30pm Thursday October 27, 2016 at the Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston. The funeral will follow at 2:30pm with Michael Rector officiating.
