Jackie Eugene Reed, age 64 of Niota, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 26th, 1961, in Athens, TN. Those who knew Jackie saw in him the very spirit described in Paul Harvey’s famous words about the farmer: a man who rises early, works tirelessly, cares deeply for his animals and crops, and still finds time to lend a hand to a neighbor in need. Jackie lived out that truth every day, was faithful, humble, and strong. Jackie devoted his life to the land, his family, and his community. He understood the rhythm of the seasons and the responsibility of caring for the land. From the first light of dawn to the quiet of evening, he worked with steadfast hands and a heart full of purpose. He believed that farming was more than a job; it was a calling. He grew up with the values that would guide him all his life—faith, hard work, and compassion. Farming was not just his livelihood but his life’s purpose. Jackie attended Beulah Chapel Church of the Nazarene where he loved his church family. He received the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) from the Nazarene Church in 2010 and again in 2017 for his contributions to Missions. He is a member of Union McMinn Baptist Church. Jackie is survived by his wife Rachel of 33 years who he loved so much, brothers & sisters-in-laws Charles, Don & Jane, Ralph & Theresa. Sister, Dortha. Sisters in law Becky (Johnny) and Becky (David) Reed. He always told his family “I love you” just before hanging up after talking to them on the phone. He was preceded in death by parents John & Minnie Ruth Gibson Reed, brothers Johnny, Joe Allen, Jimmy, David and sister Deborah, sister-in-law Ann. He was a beloved uncle with many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Close friends Brad Anderson, Ron Dawson, Kevin Thompson with many others too numerous to add. We want to thank our friend and nurse Jenny with Gentiva Hospice. Friends and neighbors are welcome to join in honoring a man whose life was a testament to faith, family, and the land he loved. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Beulah Chapel Missions Teams. Visitation will be on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Beulah Chapel Nazarene Church from 4:00P.M. until 7:00P.M. with the funeral service to follow at 7:00P.M. with Rev. Bill Dawson and Rev. John Porter and Rev. Karen Porter officiating. Interment will be on Saturday at 11:00A.M. in the church cemetery, with Rev. Jason Reed and Rev. Joe Reed, his nephews, will conduct the interment service. Though the fields will miss his steady footsteps, his legacy will live in every harvest gathered, and every life he touched.
