Jerry Allen Rogers

Jerry Allen Rogers, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Pryor Rogers was born in Monroe County, Notchey Creek Community. Jerry was committed to the needs of his family and was proud of his four children. He was gifted in many areas. Jerry grew up working on the family farm, where his strong work ethic was greatly valued. Jerry had a distinguished military career, where he served in the United States Marine Corp, United States Army, and the United States Air Force. Most of his career was serving as a USAF Security Police Officer. During Jerry’s military service, he was privileged to serve two tours of duty in South Korea and one tour in Vietnam. Two of his favorite assignments were France and Taiwan. Having his family share these assignments made those years especially memorable. Jerry retired from the United States Air Force after over 20 years of service. After Jerry retired from the Air Force, he returned to Tennessee. He started a successful automotive business and was also employed by the US Postal Service in Sweetwater. During his retirement, Jerry enjoyed traveling, gardening, woodworking, and his animals. He was never too busy to share his mechanical skills to help someone in need of a car repair. Jerry was known to be a fair, honest, and humble man. Mr. Jerry Rogers passed away on March 23, 2023. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 67 years, Barbara Specter Rogers, his parents, and his younger brother Erskin Rogers. He is survived by his children Robin (Thomas) Tait, Marilyn (the late Philip) Saunders, Dixie (Christopher) Huffstetler, Jerry Allen (Joyce) Rogers II; his brother Arthur (Alberta) Rogers; six grandchildren Matthew (Candace) Tait, Katherine Tait, Lauryn (Sean) Sterrett, Caroline (Keegan) Fridblom, Hannah Rogers, and Courtney Rogers; and six great grandchildren. Kykers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Receiving of friends will be Tuesday, March 28, 2023, from 5PM until 7PM. Funeral will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 2PM at Kykers Funeral Home with Riley Huffstetler officiating. Graveside to follow at Sweetwater Memorial Park with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Christopher Huffstetler, Brian Rogers, John Scruggs, Sean Sterrett, Matthew Tait and Thomas Tait. Honorary pallbearer will be Arthur Rogers. The family would like to give a special recognition to Tracy and Andy Sneed and all the loving staff at Remember Me Senior Care in Cleveland, TN who cared for Jerry with kindness, dignity, and professionalism in his final months. Also they wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of Hearth Hospice.
