John A. Will

John A. Will, 78, was born in Wadsworth, Ohio, lived in Cincinnati for almost 30 years, and then chose Kingston, Tennessee, as a new home for him and his wife almost 20 years ago. Surrounded by his family, John passed away on Friday, July 18th. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Mary B. Will, but preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. and Ethel L. Will. Daughter Lisa Nichols and her husband Chuck, of Sugar Land, Texas; daughter Valerie Askren and her husband Ben, of Lexington, Kentucky; and son Robert Will and his wife Kelly, of Guilford, Indiana, also survive John. He leaves ten grandchildren: Kelly Roberson, Robert Nichols, Jade Vantreese, Holly Nichols, Elijah Vantreese, Christina Will, Brandon Will, Adam Will, Emma Askren, and Walter Askren; as well as two great-grandchildren: Rowan Kolar and Marshall Nichols. John’s entire family, including his brother, Don Will, and many kind friends here and across the country mourn his passing. John Will had a full and happy life; he created many beautiful pieces of furniture, and traveled to a variety of places. John enjoyed music, art, the theatre, and had an insatiable love of reading. He spent many years enjoying the beautiful woods and lakes in the Tennessee/Kentucky area. John worked for over 40 years in the insurance business and established his own agency in Cincinnati. He was awarded Mr. Mutual Agent of Ohio and Mr. Mutual Agent of America for 1974-1975. John served in many civic capacities during his life including his service as an elected Roane County Commissioner from 1994-1998. He was also a member of Kingston United Methodist Church. John was known as a hardworking man, a man of tenacity, integrity and generosity, a man who also peppered his life with an unrelenting sense of humor. John’s commitment to his wife and to his family will always be remembered. A Celebration of Life service, with the Reverend Don Morris officiating, will be held at the Kingston United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 27th at 3:00 PM. Before the service, friends may greet the family from 2-3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 1124, Kingston, TN 37763.
