Lillian Mathis Shannon Lillian Mathis Shannon of Kingston passed away Friday December 19, 2008. Lillian was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother and all who knew her loved her. Preceded in death by her parents; Peter and Helen Mathis and a sister Wanda Pennington. Lillian was born in Akron, Ohio. She moved to Tennessee with her parents in 1943. She enrolled in a school where she met Glenn Shannon who was a teacher and coach. After graduation, she was employed by Union carbide of Oak Ridge. She and Glenn were married January 20, 1945 and lived in Oak Ridge until October of 1945, when they moved to Kingston. Lillian worked at the First National Bank in Rockwood, TN for several years. Lillian became a member of First Baptist Church in 1953. She was involved in many church programs, including the children’s church, discipleship training, church library, and was one of the church money counters until she became ill. Survivors include; husband Glenn H. Shannon of Kingston Three daughters and sons in law; Kay and Gene Gaby of Greeneville, TN Nancy and Kenneth Plemons of Kingston, TN Rebecca and Doug Winters of Hartsville, SC Grandchildren; April Creech of Lebanon, TN Ashley Perry of Knoxville, TN Melanie Ehr of Kentucky Stephen Plemons of Kingston, TN Adam Winters of Indonesia Jared Winters of Charleston, SC Great grandchildren; Anna Grace, Clay and Kenlee Hope Ehr all of Kentucky Katie Creech of Lebanon, TN Keenan Winters of Indonesia Kyndal Plemons of Kingston, TN Christian and Spencer Perry of Knoxville, TN Leighton Winters of Charleston, SC Lillian is survived by three sisters; Marie Wyant of Stow, Ohio Betty Nance of Nufane, Vermont Shirley Henry of Heath Ohio Two brothers Garland Mathis of Lafollette, TN Ronald Mathis of Heath, Ohio Funeral 4pm Sunday December 21, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Kingston, with the Rev. Ronald Jones and the Rev. Sonny Works officiating. Burial 11am Monday at Kingston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4pm Sunday at the First Baptist Church .Pallbearers are Stephen Plemons, Adam Winters, Jared Winters, Bob Ehr, Brian Creech and Shelby Perry. Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston in charge of arrangements.
