Marion Foy McDavid Jr

Marion Foy McDavid Jr passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, at his home. Foy is preceded in death by his father, attorney M. F. McDavid, Sr., mother Caroline Okey McDavid, and brother Bill McDavid. Foy was born in Knoxville October 28, 1944. He grew up in Harriman, graduating from Harriman High School, attended Tenn Wesleyan-Tenn Temple colleges, graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1979 with a BS in Communications. Survived by sister-in-law, Sheila McDavid, niece Nicole McDavid, step-niece Stephanie (Ray) Scarborough, and step-nephew Chester Sheldon. Also survived by favorite great-nephew Atticus (Tuck) Bullard, his father David (Stephanie) Bullard and children; grandparents Tom and Carol Bullard, Nancy Thomson and daughter, Susie; McDavid cousins Nora Jane and Robert in Virginia; Dr. Jack Curren and sister Nancy in California, and other cousins in the Carolinas. Foy is also survived by first love and former partner, Dr. Becky Francis, 1975-83, whom Foy never rejected and was always faithful. He worked for the State Dept of Human Services 1974-1977. He held an internship at the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. Became the first managing editor of the weekly Campbell County News in 1980 and doubled the subscriptions in the first year. Other journalism: Tenn- Alabama correspondent news published in The Ripon Forum magazine, political notes section, 1971-1980s (digitally archived at Cornell University); Tenn columnist Acquire’s Coal Today magazine; Tenn columnist Coal Chronicle monthly insert in The Charleston W. Va. Daily Mail and other Thomson newspapers; founding associate member Columbia Journalism Society; plankowner member US Navy Memorial. Foy volunteered for the Navy during the Vietnam War 1965-69 communications yeoman third class petty officer; also served in the Navy Reserve 1974-83. He retired from a career in communications in 1986 when he began suffering from multiple sclerosis. He was diagnosed with osteomyelitis in 2023. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 12 Noon until 1:00 p.m. at the Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman, with the funeral to follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Roane Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard. Kyker Funeral Home of Harriman is serving the McDavid Family.
