Mary Glenda Horton Blackwell Murray

Mary Glenda Horton Blackwell Murray, age 85, of Cairo, GA, went home to be with her Lord on August 6, 2025. A member of the 1958 graduating class of Cairo High School, she was employed with the FBI for 8 ½ years before beginning her career with Delta Airlines. She culminated her career at Delta in the role of Executive Secretary to the President prior to her retirement after 23 years of service in 1992. She subsequently moved with her husband, Dale Murray, to Roane County, TN, where she quickly became a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church, Ten Mile, serving as the church secretary and touching many lives with her tireless energy and love for the Lord. After the loss of her beloved husband, Dale, she eventually relocated to be closer to family while she fought a courageous battle against various illnesses. She was devoted to her family and her church family and beloved by all who knew her. Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Alton Lee Horton and Louise Madeline Shiver Horton; her spouse, Edgar Dale Murray; her brother, Roger Horton; and her grandson, Gary Brent Heflin. She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law Janice Bennett of Cairo, GA; Nelda and Derrill Snelgrove of Lilburn, GA; Gloria and Ed Kerr of Birmingham, AL; and Lenoir and Danny Ezell of Cairo, GA. Additional survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Tracy Blackwell of Clover, SC; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Saundra Murray Stubbs and Eleazar Tinajero of Stockbridge, GA; stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law; Rance and Maria Murray of Marietta, GA, and Stephen and Charlene Murray of Jackson, GA., as well as her grandchildren, Johnathan Blackwell of Clover, SC; David Blackwell of Clover, SC; Jessica Dando of York, SC; Brittany Shelnutt of Crossville, AL; Beau Stubbs of Philadelphia, TN; Matthew Murray of San Clemente, CA; Justin Murray of Las Vegas, NV; Georgia Wang of Las Vegas, NV; and Heather Murray of FL, and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends at Salem Baptist Church, Ten Mile, TN, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 11:00A.M. until 1:00P.M. The funeral will also be held at Salem Baptist Church, on Saturday, August 16, at 1:00P.M. with Dr. Ted Clower officiating followed by burial in Edgemon Cemetery, Ten Mile.
