Starl H. Moore

Starl H. Moore, age 82, of Kingston, passed away September 1, 2016 at his home in Kingston. He was born at his farm home in the Laurel Bluff community, June 14, 1934, the son of the late Arthur L. and Ida S. Moore. He attended Paint Rock elementary school and graduated in 1953 from Midway High School, where he loved to play basketball. After high school he worked at Russ Engineering Company and in April of 1955 met the love of his life, wife of 58 years, Joann Terry. He then enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Lake Champlain. Following his Naval service he began a career with the Tennessee Valley Authority working at various sites until his retirement in 1988, after 30 years of service. He was an active member of the community, including membership in the Kingston Lions Club. He was a member Kingston Church of Christ. He dropped everything to help his family without question and supported his friends! His life was filled with the joy of work from the time the sun came up until it went down. Starl loved being outdoors and working on his land and could fix or make anything he put his mind to. He had a special place in his heart for his mother and father-in-law, who after the passing of his parents, he considered his parents too. He enjoyed visits with family and friends, attending all his grand children’s events and supporting their schools, frequent trips to visiting relatives and friends, high school and Navy reunions, getaway vacations with his wife and Vanderbilt football and basketball games! At his reunions, family events and pretty much every “hello”, Starl was always a reliable source of stories and laughter! He is preceded in death by both parents Ida and Arthur Moore, and his in laws Aline and George Terry, his sisters Duley Moore, Lillie Davis, Lucy Russell, Rose Moore, his brother Arch Moore, Walter Moore, Cross Moore, Rufe Moore. He is survived by his wife Joann Terry Moore, his son and daughter-in—law Terry and Dawn Moore, his grandchildren Paige Moore, Connor Moore and Austin Moore, sisters Carrye Patton and Beulah Clower, and brothers Houston “Dock” Moore and Arnold Moore, sister in law Pauline Terry, and many other nephews and nieces including Billye DeVall. The family will receive friends at the Kingston Church of Christ, Thursday September. 8th, from 5:00-6:30pm, with celebration of life services at 6:30PM. Grave side burial will be on Friday, September 9, at 11AM, at Kingston Memorial Gardens with military honors.
