Stella Mildred Kinser Dunlap

Stella Mildred Kinser Dunlap, more affectionately known as 'Millie' to family and friends, went home to be with her Lord and Savior July 17, 2008 at the age of 82. Mildred was the youngest child of the late Oscar Ray Kinser and Ethel Burkett Kinser. Her siblings included Jesse, Ray, Jr., Paul, and Dorothy, all of whom predeceased her. Millie is survived by her best friend and husband of 61 years, Jay W. Dunlap; her sons, Joel (Debbie) Dunlap of Greensboro, NC., Paul (Connie) Dunlap of Murfreesboro, TN, David (Cindy) Dunlap of Morristown, TN, and Daniel 'Danny' (Kelly) Dunlap of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren; Tiffany (Erik) Branson, Jonathan, Joshua, and Noah Dunlap; and Step-grandchildren Elizabeth, Paul and Lee Howerton. A native of McMinn County, Millie was educated in the schools of McMinn County, Tennessee Wesleyan College, the University of Tennessee, Precept Ministries, and The Tennessee School of Banking. A devout Christian since an early age, Millie has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater for more than fifty years. She taught Sunday School, as well as being involved in Missionary Organizations and Bible School. A professional secretary , Millie was social editor at the Daily Post Athenian and secretary for Athens First Baptist Church before coming to Sweetwater. For 18 years, she was a secretary and valued employee at Sweetwater Valley Bank. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Millie was active in community and school affairs. She was a member and served as president of Athens Pilot Club and Athens Artist Series, president of Sweetwater Home Demonstration Club, president of Sweetwater Elementary School PTA, Cub Scout Den Mother, and secretary/treasurer of Sweetwater high School Band Boosters (where her sons were outstanding students and musicians). She was deeply interested in art, music, books, and needlework. Millie's exceptional framed needlework was on Special Exhibit at Sweetwater Public Library, as well as in the homes of friends and family. She has been disabled and home bound for many years, but maintained close relationships with her Church and many friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Sweetwater First Baptist Church funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Phil Holmes and Rev. Joel Dunlap officiating. Family and friends will meet 1:45 PM Sunday at Sweetwater Memorial Park for a 2:00 PM Graveside service and Interment. Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Sweetwater, TN. Kyker Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
