Sterlien Douglas Humphreys, husband of 46 years to Elda June Kelly Humphreys, father of daughters Tonya Moore and husband Brian of Spartanburg, SC and Rebecca “Becky” Bowman and husband Jeff of Pine Orchard, Grandfather of Caitlin, Haley, and Ethan Moore of Spartanburg, SC and Casey and Jessica Bowman of Harriman and Shelley Bowman Smith and husband Dustin Smith of Harriman and great grandfather of Kailey Bowman and Carter Smith, both of Harriman was called to his heavenly home on Monday, August 28. A native of Harriman, Mr. Humphreys, “Big S” or Sterlien to all who knew him was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He never met a stranger and made new friends everywhere he went. Having worked his entire life including Roane Hosiery, Burlington Hosiery and Tennessee Forging Steel, Mr. Humphreys retired from Fortafil Fibers after having worked in shipping and receiving. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Kingston. His love for his family will ever be evident through the life he lived, the example he set, his hard work and his interest in refinishing antiques, especially clocks of all kinds. His greatest joy came from his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a very humble man who loved the Lord and will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched. In addition to his immediate family, Sterlien is survived by a very beloved niece, Esther Russell of Oak Ridge, sisters-in-law Geneva Russell and husband Earl of Oak Ridge and Hattie Mae Henderson and husband Barry of Greeneville, Tennessee, and special friend Pete Goepferts. Other survivors include, mother Dora Humphreys of Harriman, sister Caroline Neeley of Oakdale, brother Ray Humphreys of California, brother Mike Humphreys and wife Pam of Kingston, sister Brenda Hendrix and husband Kenneth of Harriman and brother Randy Humphreys and wife Donna of Harriman, many nieces and nephews, special friends, and church friends. Funeral 8:00 PM Thursday August 31, 2006 at Kyker Funeral Home Chapel, Harriman. Rev. Randy Griffis and Rev. Eddie Neeley officiating. Graveside Service and Interment 10:00 AM Friday in Roane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Kyker Funeral Home, Harriman.
