Tony Bruce Townson

Tony Bruce Townson, age 76, of Chattanooga , TN,was called home to be with his Lord on Friday April 1, 2016 . He was at home with his wife, Mary and at peace with God. He was a member of First Baptist Church Bridgeport, AL.. He served his country in the Army in Germany from 1963 to 1965, discharged just as the Vietnam War was ending. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 40, Ringold, GA. After retiring early he was dedicated to helping to care for his mother, Lena Gourley Townson, his aunt, Lucy Gourley Moura and his Uncle Rev.Joe Caldwell. He spent countless days coming from his home in Chattanooga to Sweetwater and staying days at a time to help care for them. He was one of the kindest, most selfless people on earth. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Mary Steele Townson, who has lovingly cared for him the past couple of years. Also survived by his precious aunt, Sally Gourley Caldwell, Sweetwater, who along with her deceased husband, Rev. Joe Caldwell loved him like a son. Also survived by sisters-in-law Linda Steele Raulston(Clyde),Bridgeport, AL, Myrtle Steele , Bridgeport, AL and Littlen Steele of Stevenson, AL, several nieces, nephews and great friends who loved him dearly.He was preceeded in death by his mother, Lena Gourley Townson, father, Tom Townson, his grandparents, William Melton Gourley and Fannie Lindsey Gourley, his grandparents James and Nancy Townson and numerous aunts and uncles. The family would like to extend very special thanks to special friends, Betty and Owen Lewis for countless hours and days they spent helping Mary in so many ways, also a special thanks to Calvin and Debbie Gullett for all they did to help, a special thanks to little Chelsee Gullett who was like a grand-child and always brightened his life. A special thanks to caregivers Tracy Dodd, Sonya Stuart and Courtney Francis. for lovingly caring for him. A special thanks to cousin Betty and Richard Taylor with whom he and Mary had a special bond from spending at lot of time together over the past several years. Thanks to his cousins Glenn Townson and wife and Raymond and Brenda Stamey for coming to see him often. His loyal friends of many years, Dennis Harvey and Barry Johnson were there for him every step of the way. His cousin Joe Gourley, Ohio, called frequently. To Chris and Julie Gourley for bringing his Aunt Sally to see him a special thanks. For all the many acts of kindness from many of you that made his life more special we are so greatful. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, from 5:00P.M. until 9:00P.M.
