Virginia "Jenny" Goodin Wales

The ageless Jenny's soul left this world after a long valiant battle with heart disease. Jenny had a huge heart that always had room to add another person or animal. She was a registered nurse, poet and author, most loving of mothers, devoted grandmother, sister to Francis, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend, including to her two ex-husbands and their wives. Throughout her life she cared for an endless army of orphaned kittens, puppies, goats, and one very special squirrel. In the last years of their lives she took tender care of her mother Mary and father Robert. She was addicted to The Weather Channel and all of those she loved could expect a phone call if their area was experiencing severe weather. During her last years of nursing she was a home nurse who didn't just see to her patients physical needs but who would do battle on their behalf when it came to dealing with the red tape of their care. Though Jenny never published any of her works she constantly wrote poetry including beautiful pieces she composed for her children. She was a very creative person who sang and played the piano and designed and sewed beautiful clothing for her four daughters. We, her daughters, will always treasure our matching Easter outfits which she made every spring. Jenny was a devout Christian who believed in eternal life. For her the phrase "What Would Jesus Do" meant trying to practice Jesus's lessons to love one another and take care of the weakest among us. She never judged anyone and always forgave hurts done to her. "And now abideth faith, hope, and charity, but the greatest of these is charity" is her favorite Bible verse. During her life it was a known fact in the community that you could get a warm meal, a couple of bucks, and a night or two on Jenny's couch. Trina, Darrell, Rebecca, Teri, David (son), Amanda, David (grandson), and Molly ask that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to the American Heart Association, Habitat for Humanity, or your local no kill animal shelter. Or, if you happen to catch one of our beloved Marmee's favorite movies on television, Rebecca, Intolerable Cruelty, or Defending Your Life, stop and watch for a moment, and raise your glass in salute to the memory of an extraordinary woman. A graveside service will be held for Jenny on Saturday, April 9, 5 p.m., at Piney Grove Cemetery.
