Hugh C. Sliger

January 27, 1928 - June 3, 2022

Hugh C. Sliger, age 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 03, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving children, Jan and Jeff. Known affectionately as Mr.Hugh, he was born in Jackson County, Tennessee, to his parents, the late Mr. Henry C. Sliger, and Mrs. Maude M. Sliger, where he worked on the family farm and developed his wonderful work ethic. After graduating from the U.T. Memphis College of Pharmacy, Mr. Hugh went into active duty in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a medical officer and as a special task force member directly out of the Pentagon. Mr. Hugh raised his family in Harriman, TN, where he was a devoted husband to his wife, Ms. Shirley for 52 years. They were avid U. T. football fans, attending games and having tickets since 1957. Mr. Hugh was an active community member as the owner/pharmacist of Chase Drugs, Inc. and a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Trenton Street Baptist Church. Mr. Hugh was a long time member of the Harriman Lions Club, Harriman Industrial Board and organized the Roane County Pharmacy Association. Mr. Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Shirley Jean Lemons Sliger, and brother, Mr. James Sliger, Washington, DC. He is survived by his daughter, Jan S. Fine and special friend, Todd Homer, as well as his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jenny Sliger. Mr. Hugh’s favorite pastime and passion was supporting and cheering on his grandchildren in all of their activities; Zac and Olivia Fine and their new son, Callum Hugh; Tanner Fine and special friend, Elizabeth Blythe; Brittany Sliger and fiancée, Stephen Stickle; Catherine Sliger and Matthew Sliger. Mr. Hugh was always so proud of each of their accomplishments and was overwhelmingly thrilled with the recent meeting of his great grandson and namesake, Callum Hugh (Zac and Olivia). A special thank you is extended to special friends and caregivers Kenny and Hope; Ms. Joy, Ms. Edith, Ms. Nita, Ms. Dorothy, Ms. Raphie and all of those at Pinnacle Assisted Living, Knoxville, TN, as well as those at Smoky Mountain Hospice and AMADA Senior Care for the special love and care for Mr. Hugh. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm at Trenton Street Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will follow with Dr. Robert Darville officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow immediately at Roane Memorial Gardens.
