ABCM Samuel DeWayne Underwood

December 12, 1933 - June 6, 2022

Samuel DeWayne Underwood, 88, of Madisonville, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 6. He was born to the Late Rev. J.L. and Lonnie Mae Underwood on December 12, 1933. Sam enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954 and was honored to serve his beloved country for nearly 37 years. The final fifteen years of his Navy career, he served as a Command Master Chief and retired in 1991. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Beth Lynn Underwood; brothers James, Paul, Joe, Emanuel, and Dean; sisters Lois, Mary and Barbara. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Wilma of Madisonville, daughters Kimberly Morgan of Gulfport, MS Kellie (Richard) Sonner of Elkhart, IN; Robin (John) Derdzinski of Knoxville, TN. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister Virginia Peters of Wilmington, NC, and brothers David Underwood of Kingsport, TN and Buck (Esther) Underwood of The Villages, FL. Several nieces, nephews and special friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. the funeral service will follow at 2:00P.M. in Kyker’ s Chapel with Buck Underwood, CAPT., United States Navy officiating.
