Allie Emma Morris Howard

Allie Emma Morris Howard passed from death into eternal life Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at the age of 91. She was born August 5, 1920, to Frank and Lassie Wilson Morris. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, C. Austin Howard, and brothers Frank Jr., Clarence, and Leonard. She told many childhood stories to her children and grandchildren, including that she had to learn to swim or her three brothers would have drowned her in the creek. A faithful member of Cedar Fork Baptist Church, Mrs. Allie, as she was affectionately called by friends and students, organized the church's first fantastic Vacation Bible School. Children loved her enthusiastic sharing of Bible and missionary stories, and the super energy she brought to church happenings. She was instrumental in the formation of the Women's Missionary Union at Cedar Fork and taught the Ladies' Bible Class for over 35 years. Mrs. Allie was a dynamic congregational song leader in the church's early years, and she was faithful to Sunday worship and she sang in the church choir. She cherished her church family. Mrs. Allie was a graduate of Hiwassee College, Madisonville, and Tennessee Wesleyan College, Athens. Her first teaching assignment was at Luttrell Elementary in Loudon County. Then, she taught at Paint Rock and Midway Elementary Schools in Roane County for 40 years, and continued to substitute an additional 11 years after her retirement. Teaching children was not work to Mrs. Allie - it was a vocation she loved. Mrs. Allie was named Roane County Teacher of the Year and was deemed a Roane County Treasure in 2008. She will be posthumously inducted into the Midway School Hall of Fame in January, 2012, to acknowledge her contributions to the school and community. She was a member of the Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Roane County Retired Teachers' Association. Mrs. Allie is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (Ray) Turbyfill of Athens, Barbara (Jerry) Berwanger of Chattanooga, and Vivian (Tim) Kittle, of Loudon. Mrs. Allie adored her grandchildren, who affectionately call her Mom- oo. They are Jim Sisk, Richie (Brenda) Sisk, Beth Anne (Gale) Wagner, Jeff (Jenny) Dawson, Bambi (Mike) Doss, Christie Elmore, Chip (Laurie) Clifton, Tina (Ed) Brown, Tonya (Matt) Delashmit, Carrie Shavers, Jeremy, Jason, and Justin Kittle. Great grandchildren: Aaron and Nick Sisk, Brennan and Abigale Wagner, Bindi and Lola Dawson, Allie and Max Elmore, Melina Burkhart, Chelsea and Cade Delashmit, Michael Caylor, and Morgan and Eli Shavers. Family members will serve as pall bearers. Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Allie are at 3 p.m., Saturday, November 26, Cedar Fork Baptist Church, Oakland, Rd., Sweetwater, with Rev. Mark Richesin and Dr. Ted Clower officiating. Interment in the church's cemetery follows the service. The family receives friends at Cedar Fork from 1 - 3 p.m. Saturday, November 26, prior to the service.
