Carroel Ann Presswood Edgmon

Carroel Ann Presswood Edgmon, 78, passed away on February 13, 2026, at Life Care Center of Athens surrounded by her family. Carroel was a member of Gregory’s Chapel Baptist Church from the age 11. She also taught Sunday School and held some church offices. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1965, Hiwassee College in 1967, and served on the Alumni Committee for many years. Carroel taught school at Copper Hill, Turtletown and Ducktown in Polk County, TN as well as Brown’s Elementary School and became a substitute teacher in Sweetwater. She also studied online at Colorado Tech University, was a dedicated employee of Sea Ray Boats for 22 plus years, taught swimming lessons at Sweetwater City Pool, a former member of Gold Wings and a current member of Eagle Wings Chapter M of Lenoir City, TN. She enjoyed drawing, reading, traveling, working in her flower beds and yard, riding motorcycles and spending time with her family and lifelong friends/classmates Johnnie Jones, Carole Kennedy, Jane Mooser and Pidge Collette. Carroel is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Mary Linn Isaacs Presswood Jr., brother-in-law Jarrett Bass, the father of her children “Sonny” Bernard Edgmon, cousin’s Cookie McCallie and Janie Hicks Barnes. Carroel is survived by her significant other James Whitener, her three children Scott (Ginny) Edgmon, Paige Edgmon, and Bryan (Betsy Miller) Edgmon all of Sweetwater, TN. As well as Nancy Whitener of Madisonville, TN; sister Sharon Bass of Sweetwater, TN; nephew Joshua (Marybeth) Bass of Maryville, TN; 7 grandchildren Justin and Jessica Hall, Raven and Keiland Allen, Brianna (Tucker Medders) Edgmon, Truxton King, Brittany and Kenneth Slusher, Chris Atkins and Phillip Pittman; 10 great-grandchildren Haislee Scoggins, Lakeley Hall, Keenan Contreras, Anabelle Long, Juliana Page, Joslyn Monroe, Alenei, Roxas and Ventus Allen and Maverick Slusher. Receiving of friends will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Chapel of Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Gerald Atkins and Rev. Tony Curtis officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at the Sweetwater Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Justin Hall, Truxton King, Keiland Allen, Chris Atkins, Josh Bass and Tucker Medders. A special thank you to Life Care Center of Athens, Special caregivers that went above and beyond Kelsey Ardoin, Shannon Smith, Victoria Ray and Caris Hospice.
