Edgar Paul Walsh

Edgar Paul Walsh age 89 of Kingston, died on Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Roane Medical Center. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rosa Walsh of Hollywood, Alabama, and brothers, Frank Walsh and wife, Earline of Bristol and Bill Walsh and wife, Louise of Lenoir City; brother-in-law, Gordon Bradford of Kingston; nephew, Bob Badger of Kingston; great nephew; Jimmy Bradford of Greenville, Tennessee; and Paul’s special friend, Micki Garrison of Oak Ridge. Paul is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Bradford of Kingston; niece, Rosemary Alexander and husband Joe, of Kingston; nephews Mick Bradford and wife, Kathy of Park Island, South Carolina; Frank Bradford and wife, Shelba of Ooltewah; Charlotte Badger of Knoxville, wife of deceased nephew Bob; Bo Walsh of Lenoir City; Gene Walsh and wife, Kathy of Lenoir City; and Paul Walsh of Knoxville. He is also survived by great nephews Clay Badger and wife, Rhonda of Kingston; Adam Badger and wife, Susie of Kingston; Jonathan Hensley of Memphis; Michael Bradford of Knoxville; Mickey Bradford and wife, Chuen of Anchorage, Alaska; Hunter Bradford of Metropolis, Illinois; Quinton Bradford of Greensboro, North Carolina; Paul Walsh, Jr. of Knoxville; Sergeant Bo Walsh Presently in Iraq; and Gene Walsh, Jr. and wife Karin of South Pittsburg, Tennessee. Paul is survived by great nieces Julia Dibrell and husband, Phil of York, South Carolina; Mary Bradford of Knoxville; Laura Dickey and husband Jim of Chattanooga; and Molly Cooper and husband, Bret of Maryville. Paul is also survived by several great-great nephews and nieces. Paul was born in Hollywood, Alabama, on September 23, 1915. He was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers prior to his move to Kingston in 1945 where he founded and operated the Hut Cafeteria and Restaurant for 29 years. The Hut became a regional gathering and dining icon over the years with stories of Paul’s chili and Mary Lou’s pies being told as far away as Washington, DC. During the Hut years, Paul also constructed and operated an apartment complex in Kingston and was involved in other successful real estate ventures. Paul was a member of the Kingston Lion’s Club, the Roane County Shrine Club and the Kingston Masonic Lodge, and was an active member of the Kingston United Methodist Church. Paul was an entrepreneur and business man, and he generously supported his church and favorite charities. Paul was an avid UT sports fan and a season ticket holder. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm on Tuesday at the KYKER FUNERAL HOME in Kingston. Funeral services will be at 10am Wednesday at the Kyker Chapel in Kingston with the Reverend Michelle Buckles officiating. The burial service will follow at Kingston Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to extend their personal gratitude to the staff of Jamestown Assisted Living, the Rockwood Care and Rehabilitation Center, and Roane Medical Center for the exemplary care and compassion shown Paul. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to the Kingston United Methodist Building Fund.
