Faye Easter Cooley

Faye Easter Cooley, age 89 passed away January 13, 2015 in the comfort of her home. She was married to the love of her life, Daniel J. Cooley Sr. on September 1, 1941 in Rossville, Georgia. She and Dan had a long and happy life together for 70 years. A lifelong member of Trenton Street Baptist Church she was a member of the choir for many years as well as a Sunday School teacher and a mentor and role model for many. Her faith in God and his teaching were an attribute she was most proud of. Faye began college in the early 70s and graduated with honors from The University of Tennessee August 23, 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Lambda Theta, and Kappa Delta Pi. She began her teaching career at Cumberland Junior High where she taught English and then moved to South Harriman Junior high to become the librarian retiring from Harriman City School System August 31, 1985. Upon retirement she enjoyed traveling the country with Dan to visit family and friends and seeing new places. Her most memorable and enjoyable travel was to Bradenton, Florida for the winter months to enjoy the sunshine and she and Dan did this for several years always returning to the same place. Faye was and avid reader and in her spare time enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, crossword puzzles and had a beautiful touch with african violets. She is preceded in death by her husband Daniel J. Cooley Sr., her parents Andrew and Gladys Easter, her brother Kenneth Easter and her sister Geneva Layne. Survivors are her children Daniel J. Cooley Jr. of Unicoi, TN, John J. Cooley of Harriman, Mark E. Cooley of Seattle, WA, and Mimi A. Serna of Vine Grove, KY. Six grandchildren, Cley Cooley, Julianne Maness, Jessica Cooley-Ordonez, Sarah Serna-Griffis, Alana Darnall, and Danielle Serna and seven great-grandchildren, Alejandro, Joaquin, Ayla, Parker, Mason, Gram, and Nixon. Two sisters Shirley Thomas and Wanda Bullard and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman from 4-6 Saturday January 17th with service to follow. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood at 1:30 on Sunday the 18th.
