Harry Wade

Harry Wade, age 82, of Harriman passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of South Harriman Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Mr. Wade was born in Phenix City, AL to Paul and Barbara Barr Wade, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his brother, Joseph Wade.. He attended Mercer University in Macon, GA and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Franklin School of Science and Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Wade began his long, distinguished service in hospital administration at Forsythe Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL in 1948. He came to Harriman, TN in 1951 and became Administrator of Harriman City Hospital in 1953. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1988. After 37 years, he retired with the record of having the longest continuous active administrative job in the State of Tennessee; and had built the hospital staff up from 30 to approximately 300 full-time and 50 part-time employees, all of whom he considered family. Mr. Wade was a member of the American College of Hospital Administrators and the recipient of many professional awards, including the Tennessee Hospital Association Distinguished Service Award, the THA Presidential Award, and the THA Meritorious Service Award. He served on the boards of numerous health care related organizations in Tennessee. He was a past president of the Harriman Jaycees and the Harriman Rotary Club, where he received the Foundation of Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was honored by the Harriman Economic Advisory Team in 2004 with “Harry Wade Day” for his contribution to the city’s business and economic development. Survivors are: Wife of 32 years: Freda Wade of Harriman Sons and daughters-in-law: Greg and Sandra Wade of Harriman Bob and Patti Wade of Orlando, FL Son-in-law and daughter-in-law: Steven and Tina Hedrick of Kingston Brothers and sisters-in-law: Gerald and Betty Wade of Jasper, GA Marion and Beverly Wade of Sycamore, GA Sister and brother-in-law: Barbara Ann and Bernard Carbon of Wichita, KS Sisters-in-law: Barbara Ward and Shirley Wade Grandchildren: Steven and Anna Hedrick; Mandy and Chris Raymond; Cindy and Davis Benson Chad and Holley Powers Travis and Whitney Tilley Great Grandchildren: Jonas and Nolan Raymond Stessa and Sillas Tilley Charlie Barry One niece and ten nephews “Special Adopted” Family: Gary, Tammy, Cody and Brett Guge Funeral Sunday 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman with the Rev. Randy Maxwell and the Rev. Benny Whittenbarger officiating. Graveside service and interment in Roane Memorial Gardens will follow the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman.
