James Marvin Burnette

Our superhero James Marvin Burnette renewed his strength as he began his new life in eternal happiness on Thursday, August 11, 2016. He is now soaring high on wings like an eagle, running but not growing weary, walking but does not faint. He is receiving the many rewards that have been laid up for him as he rejoices with loved ones who have gone on before. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Estelle Burnette; brother: Rankin Burnette; daughter-in-law Angie Burnette. He was home surrounded by those who loved him dearly as he began his journey home. He was survived by his loving wife of 48 years Sandi Pettitt Burnette, son Jamey Burnette, daughters Staci (Tim) Gibby, Megan Burnette, Carmen Zamora, Victoria (Zac) Crowe, and Kate Burnette; grandchildren Clay, Beilei, Noah, Hunter, Taylor, Gavyn, and Brileigh; siblings Tommy (Kay) Burnette, Louise (John) Barnes, Sue (Steve) Clark, Darrell (Rhonda) Burnette, Dennis (Iva) Burnette, Vanessa (Chris) Francis. All who loved and respected Marvelous Marvin would agree that he was an honest, hardworking, courageous, gentle, giving, kind, loyal, proud, and protective man of great strength, honor and integrity who lived his life as the Bible led: “So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God”(Colossians 1:10). We choose to remember him as someone who loved southern gospel music, Dave Ramsey, Reader’s Digest, golf, travel, corny jokes, sunsets, renovating, bologna, crab legs, horehound candy, Tootsie Pops, and dancing to “Unchained Melody” with the love of his life for 51 years. Mostly we remember him as a Godly man who loved his family and friends, in deed and in truth and with sacrificial giving, steadfastly providing wisdom, instruction, and understanding all the days of his life. Though we are heavy burdened and our hearts can break no more, we are comforted by our Heavenly Father as His word says: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”(Psalm 34:18). The world was a better place with you in it, but we know you are patiently waiting for us-until we meet again… A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 6 pm at Cedar Fork Cemetery with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Cedar Fork Fellowship Hall from 6:30-8:00 pm. Prayer by Rev. Bobby Pettitt and poem recited by Clay Gibby. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
