Joanne Ferguson Fike

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, God Almighty spoke to the heart of His faithful servant, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." As He spoke to her heart, giving her the words that would bring new life Joanne Fike kept her eyes closed in her last sleep and was lifted from a world of despair to a beautiful place prepared for her. If she would give us a message today from the Portals of Heaven where she has gone to be forever with the Lord, it would probably be "For me to live in Christ, and to die is to gain." God gives us just one short time, the time that we call life and it is ours to do what we will-to live in peace or strife. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, George Fike; brothers Arthur Ferguson, Clarence Ferguson, Don Ferguson, James Ferguson, William Ferguson and Charles Hanks; sisters Alice Robinson, Juanita Johnkins and Helene McGhee. As we journey through the life of Joanne, it began on May 15,1938 in Monroe County, Tennessee where she was born to the late Frank and Alice Ferguson. Joanne was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, cousin, and friend. A life lived like Joanne cannot die, but will live on in the hearts, memories, and ideals of all those who knew and loved her. She became a Christian at an early age and joined the Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church until she moved to Evanston, Illinois where she was a faithful member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board. Not so quiet in her spirit, she served the Lord and her people with a beautiful and friendly life. Joanne was educated in the Monroe County School System, where she graduated from High Point High School. As she continued to journey in life, she was employed by Shure Bros for 25 years as a Lead Inspector until her retirement in 1994. She was highly respected and loved by her co-workers. Those who are left to share her legacy of love are her children Grady (Carmon Regina) Fike and Alvin (Marty) Fike. Her loving grandchildren Rashad Fike, Lake Forest Illinois; Erica Fike, Huntsville, Alabama, and Brandon Fike Hampton Virginia. Her great grandchildren, Peyton and Jordan Fike, Huntsville Alabama and Roman (Bubba) Fike, Hampton, Virginia; sister Mary Brownlee, Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law Mary Ferguson, Nashville, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon with the funeral service to follow in Kyker’s Chapel with Elder: Charles Yancy officiating.
