Judy Carden Chafin

Judy Carden Chafin, age 76, native of Sweetwater, TN, resident of Tellico Village in Loudon, TN went to be with her Lord April 30, 2017. Judy was preceded in death by her husband; Samuel Cecil Chafin of McDonough, GA, her parents; Earl and Ellen Martin Carden, brother; Jimmy Lee Carden, all of Sweetwater, TN. Judy is survived by her sister; Faye Carden Reed Heye (Karl) of Tellico Village, Loudon, Tennessee. Nephew; Carey Michael Reed (Gail), great nephew; Michael Reed, all of Alloms, Tennessee. Niece; Ashley Reed Phillips, great nieces; Emily and Macy Phillips, all of Summerville, SC. Stepson; Sam Chafin (Wanda) of McDonough, GA., stepdaughters; Cecilia Chafin Eames (Dave) of Poway, CA., Susan Chafin Thomas (Patrick) of LA Masa, CA., and several very special step-grandchildren. She is also survived by special cousins and a host of friends. After graduating from Sweetwater High School (class of 1958) Judy attended Belmont College (now Belmont University) and Fall’s Business College in Nashville, TN. She was employed by the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission at the Nashville Airport for seven years before moving to the Atlanta, GA area, where she lived for thirty-two years. She was employed by Protestant Radio and Television Center (where she met her future husband). Judy then worked for the State of Georgia Disability Adjudication Section until she retired and returned to Tennessee. While in Georgia she was active in Mothers against Drunk Driving (MADD) after her husband was killed by a drunk driver. She was also active in the Henry County Republican Party. Judy was a member of Salem Baptist Church, McDonough, GA. After retiring to Tennessee, Judy was a member of the First Baptist church of Tellico Village where she belonged to the Ruth Bible class, Women on Mission and Ladies Bible class. Judy was a past member of the Tellico Village Solo Club, and Xi Alpha Psi Sorority of Beta Sigma Phi. There will be a Celebration of Life for Judy on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Sweetwater Memory Chapel Dr. Charles Barnard officiating. Interment in Sweetwater Memorial Park to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church (Building Fund) of Tellico Village, 205 Chota Rd. Judy has been residing most recently at Wood Village in Sweetwater and we would like to thank the staff, caregivers and volunteers for their excellent care.
