Linda Marie Paul

Linda Marie Paul, 77, transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on March 17, 2025 of Parkinson’s Disease. Linda lived at Signature HealthCare of Rockwood Rehab & Wellness Center since 2020 when she was moved from the Harriman facility where she had lived since 2018. Linda was born in Northville, Michigan on June 25, 1947 just outside of Detroit. She came into this world with many physical challenges. Born blind she overcame many obstacles by getting special education in braille reading and to use a red and white cane while walking. She had bragging rights by saying she went to school with Stevie Wonder. They rode the bus together. Linda also had a brain cyst that caused some setbacks. She was later mainstreamed into public schools and was the first Blind graduate at Frank Cody High School. She received a standing ovation. Her mother would have to read all her homework to her because they did not provide braille books. After graduation she worked for a time taking a bus by herself to downtown Detroit. The Lions Club helped tremendously with navigation and introduced several helpful accessories the blind use to help with everyday activities. Linda lived with her mother, Lorraine Marie Paul, in Detroit until her mother passed in 1999. She later lived independently for fourteen years in Detroit where her brothers, Dennis Allen Paul and Donald Brian Paul helped. Linda would spend vacations with her sister, Ailene Fay Radcliffe, in Tennessee and finally moved to Rockwood, Tennessee in 2014 to live there permanently. She lived independently there for a few years until her health started to decline. She moved into assisted living at the Courtyards for Senior Living in Oak Ridge until she needed more help and subsequently cared for by Signature HealthCare. Linda loved music, mostly soft rock, singing, crocheting, and playing cards. She played the piano for a time as well. She was a fighter and mostly wanted to do what she could by herself. She was an example to us all on what could be done if we’re determined enough. Linda was preceded in death by her Parents, Lorraine Marie Paul (Rossen) and Allen Lewis Paul, her sister and brother-in-law Patrica and Patrick Chaulk. Linda is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Ailene and Larry Radcliffe, brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Carol Paul, her brother Donald Brian Paul and supporting friend Robie Paul. Her nieces and nephews: Brian Radcliffe and Karen Hash, Dennis Jr. Paul and April Barnier, Christopher and Jeffery Chaulk, Dayton Paul and Rachelle Casto. Her 94-year-old Uncle Guy Rossen, several great nieces and nephews and several cousins. Linda was truly loved by all and had a unique knack of remembering everyone’s birthdays. Warm thanks to those at Signature HealthCare of Rockwood for the care they gave Linda during her stay and to Adoration Hospice for the care they gave Linda at the end of her life. A celebration of life to honor Linda will take place in Michigan near her birthday in late June. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Lions Club. Blind but now can see.
