Thomas Windell Selby

THOMAS WINDELL SELBY – age 74, of Kingston passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN. Tom was born August 20, 1935 in Pikeville, TN to the late Henry and Lola Selby. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, adult Sunday school teacher and was a vital influence in all areas of the church. He graduated from Bledsoe County High School in 1954 as Valedictorian of his class. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville, TN and his Masters Degree in Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He was employed at Union Carbide, later Martin Marietta, K-25 plant for over 40 years from which he retired in 1998. He was the recipient of several U. S. patents, and published numerous papers during his career. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lola Selby (Roberts), Pikeville, TN; father and mother in law Frank and Ola Angel, Pikeville, TN brother-in-law and wife, Cecil and Angie Leigh Angel, Pikeville, TN; brother-in-law, N. J. Mooneyham, Pikeville, TN; brother-in-law, Don Angel, Pikeville, TN. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Betty Selby (Angel), Kingston, TN; daughters, Pamela Heflin and Deanna Selby, Nashville, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Dona Selby, Fairborn, OH; grandson and wife, Marcus and Hailey Heflin, Smyrna, TN; granddaughter, Kelly Heflin, Memphis, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Carolyn Selby, Rockwood, TN; brother-in-law, William Angel, Pikeville, TN; sister-in-law, Edith Angel, Pikeville, TN; brother-in-law and wife, Norman and Willie Angel, Pikeville, TN; sister-in-law and husband, Mary and John Tollett, Cookeville, TN; sister-in-law, Louella Mooneyham, Pikeville, TN. Numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, June 24 at Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston, TN; funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Billy Keele and Kenny Plemons officiating. The family will also receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm CDT on Friday, June 25 at Pikeville Funeral Home, Pikeville, TN, with interment to follow at Iron Hill Cemetery, Pikeville, TN, with Dale Angel officiating.
