William Eugene Sloan, Jr.

W.E. Sloan Jr., age 63, of Sweetwater, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sweetwater. Mr. Sloan was awarded the Silver Ringmaster Award in 2004 for supporting the Shrine Circus. He was a graduate of the Tellico Plains High School Class of 1965, he received his associates degree from Hiwassee College in 1969, his masters and bachelors of science plus 45hrs above his masters in Education from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1973. He served in the National Guard for 6 years. Retired from Sweetwater High School where he taught agriculture for 30 plus years, he was a member of the FFA. His name was mentioned twice in the who's who of American Teachers, and on the National Dean's List. He was also the owner and operator of Sloan's Bus Lines for over 40 plus years serving as a local bus contractor., He also sold Prime America Insurance for 20 years. Preceded in death by his parents: William Eugene and Anna "Babe" Moss Sloan, Sr. Survivors include wife of 29 years: Janette Rhodes Sloan, of Sweetwater, sons and daughters-in-law: James Eugene and Karen Sloan, of Ten Mile, William Wade and Tosha Sloan, of Sweetwater, Clifford Thomas and Kate Sloan, of Sweetwater, daughter and son-in-law: Daphne and Steve Hamm, of Sweetwater, grandchildren: Tyler and Amber Plemons, Zac, Melyssah, Tyler, Sophia, Jacob, Madison, Logan, and Emily Sloan. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Charlotte and Bobby Best, of Madisonville, Linda and Bill Lynn, of Tellico Plains, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Larry and Phyllis Rhodes, of Sweetwater, Rex Rhodes, of Sweetwater, sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Tonya and Ben Walden, Port Saint Lucie, FL., several nieces and nephews. Special friends: Charles and Shelby Maney, of Tellico Plains. The family will receive friends on Tuesday February 21, 2012 from 5:00P.M. until 9:00P.M. at the Sweetwater High School Gymnasium. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00A.M. in the Chapel of Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, with Rev. Don Rockholt and Dr. Leonard Markam officiating. Interment to follow in the Sweetwater Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, or the charity of your choice.
